FAQ
Service Basics
What areas do you service?
We service Brisbane and surrounding areas including Lockyer Valley, Logan, Redland Bay, and Moreton Bay. For locations requiring more than one hour of travel, a travel fee may apply. Gold Coast, Toowoomba, and Bribie Island appointments incur a travel fee of $150 per hour beyond the first hour.
How long does a typical appointment take?
Most consultations take 30 to 60 minutes. Every pet is different, and we allow as much time as needed to make sure your pet feels as comfortable as possible and receives thorough care.
What animals do you see?
We see dogs and cats.
Can you see multiple pets in one visit?
Absolutely. If you have multiple pets, we can see them during the same appointment. There is a discounted consultation fee for each additional pet seen at the same address and time.

Pricing & Payment
How much does a consultation cost?
Regular consultations Monday to Friday from 12pm to 9pm are $165. Weekend consultations are $242. After-hours appointments from 9pm to 12am are $330. These fees cover the consultation and travel.
Is mobile vet care more expensive than a clinic?
The consultation fee is typically higher than a standard clinic visit, but you are paying for personalised, unhurried care in your home without the stress of travel or waiting rooms. Many clients find the reduced anxiety for their pets, and themselves, is worth the difference. There are no hidden fees, and all costs are discussed upfront.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit and debit cards, EFTPOS, VetPay, direct bank transfer, and cash. If paying with cash, please note we carry very limited change, so exact payment is preferred where possible.
Do you offer payment plans?
VetPay is the only payment plan option currently available.
Are there any travel fees?
For locations requiring more than one hour of travel, a travel fee may apply. Gold Coast, Toowoomba, and Bribie Island appointments incur a travel fee of $150 per hour beyond the first hour.
Scheduling & Availability
What are your appointment hours?
Appointments are available from 12pm to 12am, seven days a week, except Wednesdays when the service is closed. After-hours appointments run from 9pm to 12am.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
It depends on current demand. We aim to see 3 to 5 clients per day to maintain unhurried, quality care. If fully booked, emergencies can often be fitted into after-hours slots or scheduled for the next available day.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please let us know at least 2 hours before your scheduled appointment. Cancellations or reschedules with less notice may incur a fee.
Do you do same-day appointments?
If there is availability, yes. For emergencies, we prioritise fitting you in as quickly as possible, even if that means an after-hours appointment.
What counts as an emergency?
True emergencies include things like difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, suspected poisoning, seizures, or inability to urinate. If you are unsure whether your pet’s situation is an emergency, call or message and we will help you determine the best course of action. For life-threatening emergencies requiring immediate hospitalisation, we will direct you to the nearest emergency clinic.
Clinical Capabilities
What services can you provide at home?
We can provide most routine veterinary care at home, including consultations, vaccinations, microchipping, health checks, blood screening, parasite prevention, nail trims, anal gland expression, pain assessment, minor wound care, euthanasia, and written prescriptions. Rabies vaccination can also be arranged with prior notice.
What can’t you do at home?
Services requiring specialised equipment, like X-rays, ultrasounds, or advanced surgery, need to be done at a clinic. We also cannot provide overnight hospitalisation or intensive care monitoring. If your pet needs any of these, we will refer you to an appropriate clinic and can coordinate care with them.
Can you do surgery at home?
Some minor surgical procedures can be performed at home if the environment is suitable and the procedure is appropriate. Anaesthesia carries higher risk in a home setting, so that risk will always be assessed and discussed with you before deciding whether a procedure can be done safely at home.
Do you have diagnostic equipment?
We carry scales, a stethoscope, thermometer, ultraviolet light, video otoscope, and supplies for blood collection. Blood samples are sent to a lab for analysis. For imaging or more advanced diagnostics, referral to a clinic may be needed.
Can you prescribe medications?
Yes. We can prescribe medications during consultations and either dispense them on the spot or provide a written prescription for you to fill elsewhere.
Pet Anxiety & Behaviour
My pet is really anxious at the vet. Will a home visit help?
That is exactly what PMV is designed for. Being in their own space, with familiar smells and no other animals around, helps most pets relax significantly. We also take as much time as needed and never rush, which reduces stress for both you and your pet.
What if my pet is aggressive or won’t let you examine them?
We are experienced with anxious and fearful pets and use a patient, fear-free approach. If your pet is too stressed or aggressive for a safe examination, sedation options can be discussed.
Do you use sedation?
Only when necessary for your pet’s safety and comfort. If behavioural calming techniques are not enough, or if there is a safety risk, sedation may be recommended. We always check that your pet is healthy enough for sedation first, ideally with a blood screen if there is any history of heart, lung, liver, or kidney issues.
Will my pet need to be restrained?
We use minimal restraint and focus on keeping your pet as comfortable as possible. Many pets are calmer at home and do not need much restraint at all. If restraint is necessary, we will explain why and do it as gently as possible.
Euthanasia & End-of-Life Care
Do you provide at-home euthanasia?
Yes. At-home euthanasia is one of the most meaningful services offered. It allows your pet to pass peacefully in their own space, surrounded by the people they love, without the stress of a clinic visit.
What aftercare options are available?
We work with Pets Forever Cremations for aftercare. If PMV delivers your pet to the crematorium, a $150 transfer fee applies.
Will you sedate my pet before euthanasia?
Yes. Sedation is routinely used to help make the process as calm and comfortable as possible. You are welcome to be present for the entire process, and each step will be explained beforehand.
Do I need to sign anything?
Yes. A consent form is required before euthanasia. This will be emailed to you for digital signature before the appointment.
Prescriptions & Medications
Can I get a prescription to use at an online pharmacy?
Yes. We provide written prescriptions that can be used with an online pharmacy.
How long does a prescription last?
Prescriptions are valid for a strict six-month period under Queensland law. If it has been longer than six months since your pet’s last health exam, your pet will need to be seen again before a repeat prescription can be issued.
What if I lose my prescription?
Replacement prescriptions cost $49 and are sent by registered post.
How much notice do I need to give for a prescription refill?
Please allow at least 2 weeks’ lead time for reorders, especially if a health exam is required.
Do you carry medications with you?
Yes. We carry a range of commonly needed medications and can dispense them during appointments. If something is not on hand, it can be prescribed for collection elsewhere.
Wellness & Preventive Care
Do you offer wellness packages?
Yes. The K9 Protection Plus Bundle is a comprehensive preventive care package for dogs over 6 months. It can often work out cheaper than buying monthly preventatives from a pet shop, and it includes gold standard options such as yearly injections for heartworm and tick and flea prevention.
How often should my pet have a check-up?
Generally, annual check-ups are recommended for healthy adult pets. Senior pets, usually over 7 to 8 years depending on breed, often benefit from twice-yearly visits. Recommendations can be tailored based on your pet’s age, health, and lifestyle.
Do you do puppy and kitten vaccinations?
Yes. These visits include a health check, vaccination, microchip implantation with lifetime registration, intestinal worming, and a health record booklet for new owners.
Working with PMV
How do I book an appointment?
You can call, text, email, or book online. Emma, the AI phone answering service, takes messages if we are with a patient.
Do you work with other vets or clinics?
Yes. If your pet needs services that cannot be provided at home, such as imaging or surgery, we will refer you to an appropriate clinic and can coordinate care with them.
Can I get my pet’s medical records?
Medical records are shared between veterinarians for ongoing care in line with Queensland regulations.
Do you record appointments?
With your consent, audio may be recorded during appointments to help with clinical note-taking. AI is then used to create a veterinary-specific summary of the recording, filtering out non-clinical conversation. Recordings are transcribed and then deleted, and are not shared or stored long-term.
